5 GOALS FROM FIRTH AND BIG SAVES FROM JAMIESON: BY THE NUMBERS PRESENTED BY STOREDTECH
December 11, 2024
ALBANY, NY – In their second game of the 2024-2025 National Lacrosse League (NLL) season, the Albany FireWolves won 15-4 in dominating fashion against the Toronto Rock as they poured in goals, controlled the pace of the game, and locked it down defensively. It was a much-needed bounce back win that sets the FireWolves up well for their upcoming games in December.
Let’s take a look at some of the key numbers from this past weekend’s game. View game stats here: Albany vs Toronto
5 Goals Scored By Sam Firth
Firth was held scoreless in the FireWolves’ opening game of the season against Saskatchewan, but versus Toronto he couldn’t miss as he scored 5 crucial goals. His first goal was a jaw dropping spin around shot that helped Albany expand their lead in the third quarter. From there he would use his deceptive outside shooting and great inside finishing to score his other 4 goals to help the FireWolves pull away from the Rock. Firth’s 5 goals tied his career high for goals in a game with his other 5 goal game coming in Game 2 of last season’s NLL Finals. Firth is a key part of the FireWolves offense and can explode for big games like this at any moment.
42 Saves By Doug Jamieson
With the FireWolves offense firing on all cylinders, it was goaltender Doug Jamieson who would shut the door on the Rock offense as he made 42 saves on 46 shots on goal. Jamieson is coming off being named a nominee for the 2024 NLL Goaltender of the Year and was recently named the #1 goalie in the NLL as voted on by the NLL head coaches and GMs. It didn’t matter what the Toronto shooters threw at him, Jamieson was making big save after big save. He made it looks easy as he brushed away shots, but he also made a few spectacular saves that proved why he’s the best goalie in the world.

19 Faceoff Wins By Joe Nardella
The FireWolves’ great performance against the Rock could not have happened without the hard work of Joe Nardella. He not only won 19 faceoffs out of 22 taken, but also scooped up an impressive 19 loose balls which ties his career high in a game. Nardella was surgical in his play at the faceoff circle with several perfectly executed pinch and pops right to himself. This included a clean faceoff win towards the net and an assist to Tye Kurtz who scored in transition. He was also able to use his teammates on the faceoff team to pop the ball right to their sticks. That advantage allowed Albany to get more offensive opportunities than the Rock and stop any momentum they got when they scored.
