The Albany FireWolves (4-6) lost both games of a weekend doubleheader, falling to sixth place in the Eastern division. The Buffalo Bandits (7-1) bested Albany on Friday night in Western New York, 13-8, and the Toronto Rock (6-3) took down the FireWolves in Albany on Saturday night, 13-9. Joe Resetarits led the FireWolves with 10 total points on the weekend on 5 goals and 5 assists in the two games. The righty continues to lead the team with 57 total points, 25 goals, and 32 assists. Resetarits also currently sits second overall in the league in both points and goals. Andrew Kew added 9 total points in the doubleheader, recording 5 goals and 4 assists. On the season, Kew is third on the FireWolves with 32 points and 17 goals. Ryan Benesch tallied 7 points onto his season total on 3 goals and 4 assists in the two games. Benesch’s 47 points, 19 goals and 28 assists all rank second on the team. Reilly O’Connor added 3 points in the two games on 1 goal and 2 assists. Jacob Ruest (1 goal, 1 assist), Greg Downing (2 assists), Mike Byrne (1 goal, 1 assist), and Joe Nardella (2 assists) each added 2 total points over the weekend. Charlie Kitchen, Colton Watkinson, and Curtis Conley each recorded 1 point in the two-game slate.
Goaltender Doug Jamieson allowed just 24 goals in the two games. The goalie also recorded 87 saves on the weekend, bringing his total to a league-best 377 on the year. His overall save percentage on the season is .781.
It was another masterful weekend for Nardella at the faceoff circle, going 36 for 51 on the weekend. On the season, Nardella has won the most total faceoffs in the league, going 174 of 241 thus far. His 72.2 faceoff percentage continues to rank first in the league among those who have taken more than one faceoff.
Defensively, Nardella led the Wolves with 19 loose ball recoveries, bringing his total to 81 on the season, a team high. Nardella also added 2 caused turnovers on the weekend. Nick Chaykowsky scooped up 16 loose balls, while also adding 1 block and 2 caused turnovers. Jackson Nishimura added 15 loose balls and caused 2 turnovers. Ruest and Tony Malcom each recorded 13 loose balls on the weekend. Adrian Sorichetti added 9 loose ball recoveries and caused 3 turnovers. O’Connor, Downing, and John LaFontaine each logged 8 loose balls across the two games.
Albany was 6 for 9 on power plays in the two games, getting 2 goals each from Benesch and Kew, and 1 each from Resetarits and Byrne. On the flip side, Albany killed half of the power plays they faced, allowing a goal on 3 out of 6 man-down situations.
The FireWolves are back on the road for a trip to the west coast against the San Diego Seals on Saturday, February 26. The game is at 10 p.m. EST at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego and can be watched on ESPN+ and My4 Albany.
