FIREWOLVES PICKUP HUGE WIN OUT WEST: BY THE NUMBERS

The Albany FireWolves (7-9) defeated the Vancouver Warriors (6-9), 11-7, at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Saturday evening.  Though the game was tied after the first quarter, Albany was able to score six consecutive goals and never looked back. Full statistics from the game can be found here.

Still sixth in the Eastern Division standings, the win brought Albany to a tie in the win column with the Philadelphia Wings.  The FireWolves and Wings will meet in two weeks in the Capital Region for a game that will hold massive playoff implications.  Albany is also currently one win ahead of the West’s Panther City Lacrosse Club and could potentially see themselves in the Western bracket for the playoffs.  If the season ended today, Albany would miss the playoffs, but two remaining games against the Wings and New York Riptide can shift the standings in their favor.

Once again, Joe Resetarits led the way for the FireWolves offense with 6 total points on 1 goal and 5 assists.  On the season, Resetarits is second in the league with 93 points.  He is the first and only American player in NLL history to ever record a 100-point season and needs just 7 total points in the FireWolves’ final two games to reach that mark once again.  His 38 goals rank third in the league, while he sits in fourth overall with 55 assists.  Resetarits leads the FireWolves in each of the three offensive statistical categories.  Andrew Kew (4 goals) and Charlie Kitchen (2 goals, 2 assists) each had 4 total points on the night.  Kew is now second on the FireWolves with 27 goals on the year.  Kitchen’s 4 points marked a career high for the rookie.  Jacob Ruest (2 goals, 1 assist) and Reilly O’Connor (3 assists) each added 3 points in the game.  Ryan Benesch, Colton Watkinson, Nick Chaykowsky, and Adrian Sorichetti each tallied 1 point on the night.

Goaltender Doug Jamieson allowed 7 goals on 55 Vancouver shots on net.  The goalie recorded a season-high 48 saves, bringing his total to 613 on the year, second in the NLL.  Jamieson also recorded 2 assists in the game.

Nardella won half of his faceoffs in the contest, going 11 for 22.  On the season, Nardella has won the most total faceoffs in the league, going 268 of 389 thus far.  His faceoff win-rate is 68.9 percent, second in the league among those who have taken more than one faceoff.

Defensively, Tony Malcom led the Wolves with 10 loose ball recoveries.  Malcom also caused 1 turnover on the night.  Chaykowsky scooped up 8 loose balls in the win.  Nardella and Jackson Nishimura each tallied 5 loose ball recoveries.  Nishimura, Kew, Sorichetti, and Adam Bomberry all caused 1 turnover in the contest.  Both Watkinson and Sorichetti also added 1 blocked shot to their stat lines.

Albany was 0 for 3 on power plays.  The penalty kill unit was solid, keeping the Warriors also scoreless on their 2 power play situations.

The FireWolves are off next weekend but will be back home in the Capital Region to take on the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday, April 16.  The game is at 7 p.m. EST at the MVP Arena in Albany and can be watched on ESPN+ and My4 Albany.  This will be the second time that the FireWolves and the Wings meet this season, with Albany winning the first matchup in Philadelphia, 9-8, back in January.
