The Albany FireWolves (3-2) defeated the Halifax Thunderbirds (3-1), 8-6, at the MVP Arena in Albany, NY on Saturday Evening. The FireWolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back, as the defense and Doug Jamieson stood tall all game long. This was the third consecutive win for the FireWolves while handing the Thunderbirds their first loss of the season. Full statistics for the game can be found here: https://www.nll.com/game/1499/.

Once again, Joe Resetarits led the FireWolves with 4 total points with 1 goal and 3 assists on the night. On the season, Resetarits has 18 total points, ranking third on the FireWolves. Ryan Benesch added 3 points in the contest on 1 goal and 2 assists. Currently, Benesch leads Albany with 20 points and 13 assists. Tony Malcom (1goal and 1 assist), Charlie Kitchen (2 goals), Reilly O’Connor (2 assists), Colton Watkinson (2 assists), Jacob Ruest (1 goal and 1 assist), and Andrew Kew (1 goal and 1 assist) each added 2 total points for Albany in the victory. Kew’s goal gave him 10 on the season, a team high. Nick Chaykowsky rounded out the FireWolves scoring with 1 goal, his first of the season.
For the third straight game, Doug Jamieson had a terrific game in net, allowing just 6 goals. Jamieson recorded 46 saves on the night, bringing his total to 194 on the year. His .812 save percentage on the season ranks fourth overall in the NLL.
For the first time this season, Joe Nardella won less than half of his faceoffs, going 8 for 18 in the contest. Through five games, Nardella is 74 of 103 with a 71.8 faceoff percentage, ranking first in the league among those who have taken more than one faceoff.
Defensively, Adam Bomberry and Tony Malcom led the FireWolves with 2 caused turnovers. Bomberry’s 9caused turnovers on the season lead the FireWolves. Brett Manney, Nick Chaykowsky, and Andrew Kew each caused 1 turnover in the game. Malcom also led Albany with 8 loose balls in the contest. Resetarits had 7, Nardella, Bomberry, and Chaykowsky each had 5, and Manney, Watkinson, and Sorichetti each scooped up 4 loose balls. Albany’s defense also blocked 4 shots on the night, 2 from Bomberry, and 1 each from O’Connor and John LaFontaine.
Albany had 5 power play opportunities on the evening, converting on just one of them with a goal from Kitchen. On the flip side, Halifax also had 5 power play chances and only converted on 1 of them.
The FireWolves have two games this weekend as they take on the Georgia Swarm in a Friday and Saturday back-to-back. The first game will be in Georgia on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before both teams travel to the Capital Region for a Saturday game at 7 p.m.
