Albany, NY – The Albany FireWolves (7-2) got back on track with a 13-11 win against the Colorado Mammoth (3-7) this past weekend at MVP Arena. The bounce back win was thanks to big games by both the defense and offense as they withstood everything the Mammoth could throw at them to come out with the win at home. Let’s look at the key numbers that led to the FireWolves seventh win of the 2023-24 National Lacrosse League (NLL) season. Â
50 Saves By Doug JamiesonÂ
After missing the previous game with an injury, Doug Jamieson returned between the pipes for the FireWolves and posted a season best 50 saves against a Mammoth offense that out shot Albany 62-49. Justin Geddie performed very well in relief of Jamieson, but having Dougie back in net gives the whole team a confidence boost. The 2020 NLL Goaltender of the Year’s experience and calm demeanor was crucial in this game as the teams traded goal after goal with seven ties and two lead changes. This was the seventh time Jamieson has recorded 50 saves in his career and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him do it again as the FireWolves push for the playoffs. The 50 saves earned him Player of the Game honors.Â
7 Points Career High For Tye KurtzÂ
The rookies for the FireWolves have been fantastic so far this season and Tye Kurtz has quietly been having an incredible season. His 7 points (3g, 4a) were a career high and a huge reason that the FireWolves came out on top against Colorado. Alex Simmons has been getting most of the spotlight with his team leading 48 points, but Kurtz has been so important to Albany’s success this season. He had four 5 point games in a row to start the season before slowing down for several games, but there was no lack of scoring opportunities and hard-working plays. Against the Mammoth, it felt like Kurtz took that next step as an elite forward. From pinpoint shooting, crafty passing, setting hard picks, and just making the right plays, Kurtz is making sure the league knows there is another rookie to watch out for in the Capital Region. Â

4 Players With 5 Points Or More Â
The FireWolves offense continues to be among the most balanced in the NLL and against Colorado it was a full team effort as four players contributed 5 points or more. Rookie Tye Kurtz paced the offense with 7 points (3g, 4a), while fellow rookie Alex Simmons posted a team-high 4 goals and added 1 assist. Travis Longboat (1g, 4a) and Ethan Walker (3g, 2a) rounded out the 5 point performances. After two losses where the offense struggled to produce, the win over Colorado showed that this unselfish group can explode on any given night. Â
The FireWolves travel to face the Buffalo Bandits this Saturday, February 24 at 7:30 pm who they beat 17-13 earlier this season. Albany looks to complete the season sweep against their New York State rivals and move one step closer to a playoff spot. Game can be watched on ESPN+, TSN+, and locally on MY4.Â
