Joe Macdonell joined the Albany FireWolves on November 1. His experience in the sports industry spans over 35 years and covers the full array of team management functions including ticket sales, sponsorships, and financial management. Serving as the Chief Revenue Officer for the FireWolves,  Macdonell is responsible for all areas of team revenue with emphasis on season ticket and group sales.

Macdonell has been a key executive in improving a number of difficult situations during his career. Most recently as President of the Rapid City Rush where he led efforts that posted significant increases in group sales including the largest group nights in the team’s history. Under his leadership the USHL experienced six straight years of attendance growth and improved operational efficiencies across the league. He also served as part of the senior management team that turned around the MLS’s New York/New Jersey MetroStars, now known as the Red Bulls.

The Round Rock, TX native began his career in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets. He was a key member of the club’s management team in the early 1990’s when ticket sales surged under legendary NBA executive Jon Spoelstra. As Vice President of Ticket Operations for the Nets, Macdonell was one of the youngest vice presidents in the NBA.

Macdonell earned an MBA in finance from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 while also holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Seton Hall University.
