ALBANY, NY – The Albany FireWolves of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced the signing of defenseman Ben MacDonnell to their Practice Roster, pending league approval.Â
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound forward was selected in the first round of the 2023 NLL Entry Draft by the Rochester Knighthawks and adds size and speed to the already dynamic FireWolves defense. MacDonnell was recently released by the Knighthawks from their training camp roster
The Oshawa, ON native led the Whitby Warriors of the Ontario Jr. A league to a Minto Cup championship in 2022 while also puttting up 7 goals and 18 points while appearing in all 14 games for the Oshawa Outlaws of the Arena Lacrosse League. He played collegiately at Robert Morris University. Macdonnell earned All-Rookie First Team defender honors before emerging as one of the top rookies in Major Series Lacrosse with the Brooklin Lacrosse Club. Macdonnell appeared in four games with the Knighthawks as a rookie during the 2023-24 season, scoring one goal and adding 15 loose ball recoveries. Â
The FireWolves final roster will be announced on Monday, November 25.
The FireWolves will begin the 2024-2025 NLL season with their Home Opener on Saturday, November 30 at MVP Arena against the Saskatchewan Rush. The game will be a WHITEOUT and all fans are encouraged to wear white to support the FireWolves. Â
