FIREWOLVES ELIMINATED FROM THE PLAYOFFS WITH LOSS TO BUFFALO: BY THE NUMBERS

The Albany FireWolves (#4) were defeated by the Buffalo Bandits (#1), 10-5, at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Saturday evening.  Despite 109 combined shots by both teams, the game was a low-scoring, defensive battle throughout.  The FireWolves defense was stout all night, but the Bandits took the lead early in the second half and were able to hold on for a first-round victory.  With the loss, the FireWolves’ inaugural season ends.  Full statistics from the game can be found here.

Reilly O’Connor led the FireWolves offense with 4 total points in the game on 2 goals and 2 assists.  Colton Watkinson and Jacob Ruest added 2 points on the night with 1 goal and 1 assist each.  Joe Resetarits, Ryan Benesch, Tony Malcom, Charlie Kitchen, and Nick Chaykowsky each had 1 point in the loss.  Resetarits led Albany with 11 shots on goal.

In net, Jamieson allowed just 8 goals and recorded a season-high 49 saves.  Buffalo took a total of 59 shots in the game with their final 2 goals scored on an empty FireWolves net late in the fourth quarter.

Joe Nardella went 11 for 20 from the faceoff dot and contributed 1 caused turnover and recovered 4 loose balls.  Chaykowsky led the Wolves with 8 loose ball recoveries in the game.  He also blocked 1 shot.  Watkinson and Adam Bomberry each led the defense with 2 blocked shots, and Bomberry caused 2 turnovers.  O’Connor and Ruest each caused 2 turnovers on the night, tying Bomberry for the most in the game for Albany.  Jackson Nishimura also blocked 1 shot and recovered 5 loose balls.  Malcom and Ruest each scooped up 6 loose balls in the game.

Both teams had 2 power play opportunities in the contest, and each scored 1 goal.  Albany got their power play goal from O’Connor which gave the FireWolves an early 1-0 lead.
