FIREWOLVES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH SWARM: BY THE NUMBERS

The Albany FireWolves (4-3) split a weekend doubleheader with the Georgia Swarm (3-4) with each team winning in their home arena. The Swarm bested Albany on Friday night, 14-13, but the FireWolves bounced back with a 13-11 victory on Saturday night.  Full statistics from game one can be found here, while statistics from game two can be found here.

Joe Resetarits had a phenomenal weekend, leading the FireWolves with 19 total points on 7 goal and 12 assists in the two games versus Georgia.  Resetarits now leads the FireWolves on the season with 37 total points, 16 goals, and 21 assists.  Ryan Benesch added 12 points to his season total on 6 goals and 6 assists in the two games.  Currently, Benesch is second on the team with 32 total points, 13 goals, and 19 assists.  Reilly O’Connor turned in a 12-point weekend of his own, tallying 4 goals and 8 assists.  Jacob Ruest added 5 points in the two games with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Jackson Nishimura (3 assists), Adrian Sorichetti (1 goal, 2 assists), and Tanner Thomson (2 goals, 1 assist) each had 3 points in the doubleheader. Tony Malcom (1 goal, 1 assist), Charlie Kitchen (1 goal, 1 assist), Nick Chaykowsky (2 assists), and Jordan Durston (2 assists) each added 2 total points over the weekend.  Greg Downing, Brett Manney, Colton Watkinson, John LaFontaine, and Joe Nardella rounded out the FireWolves scoring this weekend, each with 1 point.

Despite the 1-1 weekend record, Jamieson allowed just 24 goals in the two games.  The goalie also recorded 66 saves on the weekend, bringing his total to 260 on the year, third in the league.  His overall save percentage on the season is .790.

Per usual, Joe Nardella had his way with faceoffs, going 40 for 58 on the weekend.  On the season, Nardella has won the second most total faceoffs in the league, going 114 of 161 thus far.  His 70.8 faceoff percentage ranks first in the league among those who have taken more than one faceoff.

Defensively, Nardella led the Wolves with 23 loose ball recoveries, bringing his total to 56 on the season, a team high.  Nardella also added 1 caused turnover in the series.  Malcom scooped up 17 loose balls and caused 2 turnovers on the weekend.  John LaFontaine added 11 loose balls, 4 caused turnovers, and blocked 1 shot in the two games.  Greg Downing recorded 8 loose balls, 2 caused turnovers, and 1 blocked shot.  Watkinson filled the stat sheet, logging 8 loose balls, 3 caused turnovers, and 3 blocked shots in the two games.  Sorichetti also had a solid two games, tallying 5 loose balls, 2 caused turnovers, and 2 blocked shots.

Albany was 3 for 11 on power plays in the two games, getting 2 goals from Thomson and 1 from O’Connor, each on Saturday night.  On the flip side, Georgia was 4 out of 8 on power play opportunities on the weekend.

The FireWolves are back on the road this weekend for a rematch against the Rochester Knighthawks.  The game is on Saturday, 2/12 at 7 p.m. in Rochester.
