The Albany FireWolves of the National Lacrosse League (NLL), today announce that transition player and alternate captain John LaFontaine has been named a finalist for the NLL’s Teammate of the Year award.  This award was voted on by the NLL Players’ Association and the player representative from each team.  The winner of the award will be announced around the opening game of the NLL Finals.

“What John does on the floor is matched by his off the floor efforts,” said Brett Manney, team captain of the FireWolves.  “He is passionate, caring, and supportive to all his teammates.  In my 15 years of playing in the NLL, there is no one who is a better leader, player, friend, and teammate than John LaFontaine.  He is admired by all his teammates and puts everyone over himself. If that is not a reason to get this award, I don’t know what is.”

“John is a complete pro and has the quality of character that all athletes should aspire to achieve,” said Glenn Clark, Head Coach of the FireWolves.  “He plays the game the right way and carries himself without an ego.  He is a team-first athlete, and it is no surprise that his peers would consider him for this award.”

LaFontaine joined the New England Black Wolves in 2018 and has been with the organization ever since.  The alternate captain appeared in 17 of Albany’s 18 games this season and led the team with 18 caused turnovers.  LaFontaine also finished second on the club with 91 loose ball recoveries on the year.
