KIERAN MCARDLE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM NLL
ALBANY, NY – The Albany FireWolves and Kieran McArdle today announce that after 6 seasons McArdle has retired from the National Lacrosse League.
McArdle was signed by the Toronto Rock in 2016 having never played indoor lacrosse, but the Ronkonkoma, NY native quickly took to the game. He played 3 seasons in Toronto, 2 seasons for the New York Riptide, and was picked up in the 2022 Entry Draft by the Albany FireWolves for the 2022-2023 season. He was a key part of establishing the FireWolves in the Capital Region in their second season. McArdle scored 15 goals and added a team high 40 assists before suffering a season ending injury.
Over the course of 6 seasons, McArdle accumulated 254 total points for 90 goals and 164 assists. He left his mark as one of the most productive American forwards in the NLL during his career. Aside from his NLL career, McArdle won Bronze with Team USA at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in 2019, won Gold with Team USA at the outdoor 2023 World Championships, and has had success in the Premier Lacrosse League with the Waterdogs Lacrosse Club.
“I am deciding to step away from the indoor game,” said McArdle. “After some long consideration I owe it to my wife and daughter to be around more. Although my time in Albany was short, it will be a year I’ll never forget in my indoor career. I can’t thank coach Clark and the whole organization enough for a great season. I’m excited to watch this young group continue to grow.”
“Kieran made an immediate impact on our group,” said Glenn Clark, Head Coach of the Albany FireWolves. “It was unfortunate that his season was cut short by injury, he was on pace for a career year. We wish Kieran the best in his post NLL career.”
