Mike Byrne 27D

Birthdate: June 21, 1997 • Hometown: Toronto

Mike Byrne returns to the organization for his fourth season in the league. Though he did not appear in many games throughout his first two years, last season with the FireWolves, Byrne played in 15 games and caused 14 turnovers and recovered 68 loose balls. The defenseman also added four points to his season line on one goal and three assists.

Nick Chaykowsky 77D

Birthdate: September 17, 1996 • Hometown: Bradford

After beginning in minor lacrosse leagues, Chaykowsky was drafted into the Jr. A league by the Barrie Lakeshores. After four and a half years with the Lakeshores, Chaykowsky was traded to the New Westminster Salmonbellies. He then broke into the NLL and was drafted by the New England Black Wolves. Oddly enough, Chaykowsky was drafted on September 17, as the 17th overall pick, in 2017… it also happened to be his birthday.

Chaykowsky spent his first season on the Black Wolves’ practice squad before working his way into the team’s regular lineup. He appeared in 16 regular season games with the FireWolves last year, recording 85 loose balls and 10 caused turnovers.

Greg Downing 8D

Birthdate: March 24, 1985 • Hometown: Auburn

Greg Downing is another mainstay of the NLL and returns to the FireWolves for his second season. Originally from not far away Auburn, NY, Downing played collegiately at Fairfield University where he was a three-time All-American. He was named to the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list ahead of both his junior and senior season, while finishing his career with 141 total points on 101 goals and 40 assists.

Downing broke into the professional ranks after being drafted by the Los Angeles Riptide of the MLL in 2007. During his time in the MLL, Downing was a two-time All-Star and two-time Champion. Downing was also drafted into NLL by the Boston Blazers in the 2007 Expansion Draft. After stops in Minnesota and Colorado, Downing joined the organization in 2019 and has been a key piece of Coach Clark’s defense ever since. Last year, Downing played in 14 regular season games for the FireWolves and recovered 77 loose balls, caused 18 turnovers, and added nine assists.

Justin Geddie 76G

Birthdate: March 29, 2001 • Hometown: Victoria

Appearing in one game last season for the San Diego Seals, Geddie secured his first NLL win while recording 42 saves and allowing just 11 goals to the Saskatchewan Rush. Geddie also recorded one assist in the victory. Prior to his time in the NLL, Geddie was between the pipes for the Nanaimo Timbermen of the British Columbia Jr. A Lacrosse League from 2018-2022 where he won Rookie of the Year honors in 2019.

Doug Jamieson 30G

Birthdate: November 29, 1996 • Hometown: Ohsweken

Regarded as one of the best goaltenders in the game, Jamieson has been with the organization for the entirety of his first five years in the NLL. During the shortened 2020 season, Jamieson was named Goaltender of the Year as the Black Wolves sat in first place thanks to his impressive 8.77 GAA. Last season with the FireWolves, the goalie boasted a .787 save percentage and was one of the league’s save leaders with 675.

Patrick Kaschalk 19D

Height: 6’0 • Weight: 200 • Shoots: R
Birthdate: March 11, 1998 • Hometown: Windsor

Kaschalk was selected 16th overall in the first round of the 2021 NLL Entry Draft by the FireWolves. Kaschalk might be a name that Capital Region lacrosse fans are familiar with as he frequently played against the UAlbany Great Danes as a member of the Stony Brook Seawolves. He finished his Stony Brook career with 47 total points on 36 goals and 11 assists. Kaschalk played a fifth year as a graduate student with Lindenwood University where he racked up 78 points on 62 goals and 16 assists. He is no stranger to the indoor game as Kaschalk played for the Windsor Clippers and the Burlington Chiefs in the Ontario Junior League during a seven-year span from 2013-2019.

Connor Kelly 40F

Height: 6’0 • Weight: 196 • Shoots: R
Birthdate: March 31, 1995 • Hometown: Easton

The University of Maryland midfielder played both professional field and box lacrosse following graduation. He began his pro career playing with the Atlanta Blaze in the Major League Lacrosse. In 2019, Kelly played for the Whipsnakes in the Premier Lacrosse League, and made his NLL debut with the San Diego Seals. Kelly played the following NLL season with the New York Riptide, and each of the past three seasons outdoors with the Waterdogs. In his NLL career, Kelly has tallied 56 points on 24 goals and 32 assists in just 19 games played.

Charlie Kitchen 6F

Height: 6’4 • Weight: 215 • Shoots: R
Birthdate: April 30, 1998 • Hometown: Oakville

A New Jersey native, Charlie Kitchen played his collegiate career at the University of Delaware. A five-year player, Kitchen is one of two players in program history ranked inside of the top-10 in goals, assists, and points. The forward also currently holds the school record for consecutive games with a goal, scoring in 39-straight. Throughout his five seasons with the Blue Hens, Kitchen was a three-time all CAA honoree, one-time CAA Player of the Year, and was named Team MVP four times.

Kitchen got his first experience playing box lacrosse with the Toronto Beaches of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League under current FireWolves Coaches, Glenn Clark and Clem D’Orazio. In one season with the Beaches, Kitchen racked up 41 points in just 17 games. This will be Kitchen’s second season with the FireWolves after logging 22 points on 14 goals and eight assists in his rookie year.

John Lafontaine 33T

Height: 6’1 • Weight: 215 • Shoots: R
Birthdate: May 15, 1990 • Hometown: Whitby

LaFontaine entered the league in 2010 after being drafted by the Edmonton Rush. He spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Rush, compiling 56 points and 223 loose balls in 98 career games.

LaFontaine then joined the New England Black Wolves in 2018 and has been with the organization ever since. Entering his fourth year with the franchise, now the FireWolves, the Whitby, Ontario native has played 44 games, scoring 21 points with 140 loose balls, including a career high of 61 in 2018. LaFontaine appeared in all 18 regular season games last year for the FireWolves, tallying eight points on seven assists and one goal.

Ty Logan 18D

Height: 5’11 • Weight: 195 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: June 12, 1996 • Hometown: Ottawa

Though he did not appear in a game during the FireWolves’ inaugural season, Logan has been with the organization since 2019. Prior to being picked by the team, the Carleton University graduate competed for the Capital Axemen. With the Axemen he appeared in 11 games and scored one goal and recorded 13 assists. Logan has also competed for the Six Nations Arrows Junior “A” box lacrosse team and the Iroquois Men’s National Team.

Brett Manney 13D

Height: 6’3 • Weight: 220 • Shoots: R
Birthdate: September 21, 1985 • Hometown: Newtown

One of the most tenured guys on the roster, Brett Manney returns to the organization where he has been since 2014. He played his collegiate lacrosse at the University of Delaware and was a captain of the Blue Hens while leading the team to two NCAA tournaments, including a visit to the Final Four during his junior year. Following his time at Delaware, Manney was drafted by the Washington Bayhawks of the MLL in 2008. Despite never playing box lacrosse before, Manney signed as an undrafted free agent to the San Jose Stealth of the NLL that same year and has been a staple in the league ever since. Manney was a member of the 2010 championship team with the Stealth before taking his talents to Philadelphia where he played through the 2013 season.

The captain played in 16 regular season games for the FireWolves last year, recording 30 loose balls and causing 9 turnovers.

Kieran McArdle 66F

Height: 6’1 • Weight: 181 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: May 30, 1992 • Hometown: Ronkonkoma

McArdle is entering his sixth season in the NLL after spending his first three with the Toronto Rock and the past two with the Riptide. In his career, McArdle has racked up 187 total points on 71 goals and 116 assists in just 76 regular season games. McArdle brings playoff experience to the Capital Region, having logged 12 total points on four goals and eight assists in five career playoff games. McArdle has had a successful career in the outdoor game as an attackman in the Premier Lacrosse League as well, winning Rookie of the Year in 2014 and has been named an All-Star three times.

Brent Mitchell 21D

Birthdate: October 27, 1998 • Hometown: Thorsby

Mitchell attended Walsh University where he played on the field lacrosse team for four seasons. In his senior season in 2020-21, Mitchell started 10 of the team’s 12 games and logged career highs in caused turnovers (5), points (24), and assists (9). Mitchell spent 2022 playing with the Nanaimo Timberman of the Jr. A Lacrosse League where he appeared in 17 regular season games and four playoff games.

Jackson Nishimura 11D

Height: 6’1 • Weight: 162 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: May 1, 1997 • Hometown: Toronto

Drafted in the second round in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft, Jackson Nishimura has emerged into a major part of the FireWolves’ defensive unit. Nishimura was selected by the Las Vegas Desert Dogs in the Expansion Draft over the summer but reacquired by Albany via trade. The defender appeared in all 18 regular season games and the team’s lone playoff game last season and was a key part in the team’s transition game, adding 11 points on five goals and six assists. Nishimura also scooped up 123 loose balls and caused eight turnovers last year.

John Piatelli 41F

Height: 6’0 • Weight: 195 • Shoots: R
Birthdate: April 24, 1998 • Hometown: Wrentham

The FireWolves selected Piatelli with the team’s third round pick in the 2022 Entry Draft. Playing four years at Cornell University, Piatelli compiled 196 points on 147 goals and 49 assists. Piatelli was First-Team All-Ivy League in 2022 and was on the Final Tewaaraton watch list in both 2020 and 2022. During his season, he led the nation in scoring with 3.56 goals per game as he racked up 66 goals in just 19 games. Piatelli is also a member of the Cannons of the Premier Lacrosse League.

Justin Scott 16F

Height: 6’2 • Weight: 195 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: August 2, 1997 • Hometown: Mississauga

An Ontario native, Scott played four seasons of field lacrosse with Hobart College where he finished his career ranked fifth in the program’s history with 122 total points. He then joined the Delaware Blue Hens as a graduate student in 2021 where he played in 12 games and tallied eight points on four goals and four assists. Scott has experience in box lacrosse as well, playing four seasons with the Mimico Mountaineers of the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League. In those four years, Scott racked up 114 total points on 42 goals and 72 assists. He made his debut in the NLL during the 2021-22 season, playing in six games for the Toronto Rock and scoring six points.

Leo Stouros 20D

Height: 6’1 • Weight: 185 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: October 20, 1994 • Hometown: Kitchener

Stouros, a defenseman, was drafted into the NLL in the second round of the 2016 Entry Draft. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Georgia Swarm before being traded to the Riptide ahead of last season. The defender has played in 77 career regular season games, and has tallied 223 loose ball recoveries, caused 35 turnovers, and 11 total points. Stouros brings championship experience with him to Albany, having been a member of the Swarm during their finals run in 2017.

Hiana Thompson 22F

Height: 5’11 • Weight: 195 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: June 4, 1988 • Hometown: Nedrow

A brother of UAlbany Great Danes Lyle and Miles Thompson, Hiana has been in the NLL since 2015. He began his career playing two seasons with the Buffalo Bandits. During that stint, Thompson played in 15 games and compiled 29 total points on 10 goals and 19 assists. He then joined his brother Lyle with the Georgia Swarm where he played from 2016-2019. Over that four-year stretch, Thompson appeared in 31 games and tallied 61 points on 17 goals and 44 assists. Thompson brings playoff experience to the Capital Region, racking up 37 total points in seven career playoff games with the Swarm.

Tanner Thomson 44F

Height: 5’10 • Weight: 170 • Shoots: R
Birthdate: January 3, 1996 • Hometown: Etobicoke

An acquisition made by the New England Black Wolves just before the 2020 season came to a halt, Thomson is entering his second season in the NLL. The Ontario native attended Marquette University and made a name for himself early on in his collegiate career. In his sophomore season in 2016, Thomson was named to the All-Big East Championship Team after scoring six goals in two tournament wins. During his senior season in 2019, Thomson was named All-Big East First Team and won Big East Midfielder of the Week honors twice. Thomson led the team with 26 goals and had a total of 38 points. During his rookie season with the FireWolves, Thomson appeared in nine games and recorded 10 points on four goals and six assists.

Ethan Walker 57F

Height: 5’9 • Weight: 170 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: September 1, 1997 • Hometown: Peterborough

Walker is entering his second season in the league after debuting with the Swarm a year ago. The former first-round pick out of the University of Denver appeared in 10 games for Georgia, logging 30 total points on eight goals and 22 assists. Walker has also spent the past two seasons in the Premier Lacrosse League with the Waterdogs. Last season with the Waterdogs, Walker tallied 13 points on nine goals and four assists in nine total games.

Colton Watkinson 17F

Height: 6’4 • Weight: 195 • Shoots: L
Birthdate: April 6, 1993 • Hometown: Burlington

A transition player, Watkinson developed his game at the Hill Academy in Ontario before attending Limestone University. During his stint at Limestone, Watkinson led the Saints to four National Championship game appearances, winning three of them. He earned All-Conference honors three times and was a two-time All-American. On top of that, Watkinson earned the Lt. J.G. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. award for Midfielder of the Year. Watkinson was also a member of the Chesapeake Bayhawks of the MLL, capping their final season off with a championship.

Watkinson was drafted by the New England Black Wolves ahead of the 2017 season and has spent his entire NLL career within the organization. The transition man appeared in all 18 regular season games last year and notched 17 points on four goals and 13 assists.

Albany FireWolves
