Let’s look at the key numbers from the FireWolves opening round playoff win.
1st Playoff Win In FireWolves History
With the final whistle this past Sunday, the Albany FireWolves won their first ever playoff game since the team moved to Albany three years ago. The complete turnaround of the FireWolves franchise has been incredible to watch as they have surprised the lacrosse world to go from a last place 3-15 record in 2023 to now advancing to the NLL Semifinals with a record of 12-7 one year later. It was extra special winning the playoff game at home as the FireWolves fans were the loudest they have been all season. The energy was amazing and the FireWolves will be ready to put on another magical performance in the Semifinals and fight for their chance at the NLL Cup.
The hero of that historic first playoff win was FireWolves goalie Doug Jamieson who played the best game of his NLL career in the biggest moment of his career so far. Jamieson made unbelievable save after unbelievable save as Halifax threw everything they had at the Goalie of the Year candidate. 52 saves is Jamieson’s career high in the playoffs and it was the first win in the playoffs in his NLL career. Three goals allowed in a playoff game is the second lowest in NLL playoff history and has only been done three other times. The crowd chanted “Dougie!” throughout the game as they saluted the truly special performance that the long-time goalie of this franchise displayed on the FireWolves home turf.
